Jungle Theme Cake for Gautham

1 week after Ashok's birthday is Gautham's. So, it was hectic working on 2 cakes in that short time with a naughty boy running around and grabbing all the tools n stuff!
There was a confusion whether to make a castle cake or jungle cake. Got all the stuff necessary for Castle cake, but Ashok insisted on doing jungle cake as Gautham likes animals a lot! So stared making the gumpaste animals couple of weeks earlier! Did monkey, elephant, giraffe, lion, puupy, bumlebees, ladybugs, mushrooms, dolphins, penguins, birds and small flowers. Lots of work, but it was all worth for my lil boy! He loved the cake!

About the cake, its a 2 tiered cake. Bottom tier is a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. Top layer is a cream cake and chocolate cake made like a checker(it was just a trial at last minute) with vanilla buttercream frosting. Both the layers covered in fondant. Thanks to Isabelle , a colleague who gave idea for the tree. The water was royal icing and rest of the figurines are all in gum paste.

Beach Theme Cake for Ashok's Bday

Updating after a long time.... I made a beach themed cake for Ashok's Birthday. Looked at few pics at cakecentral.com and decided on doing that. Since we came from Florida, Miami trip I thought that it would be a great idea. Thought of doing some tropical flavors. Ended up with a pineapple cake with Ashok's favorite cream cheese frosting.
Made sand with Graham crackers, water with piping gel. Tried to get figurine that resembles Ashok...hmmm! Wat to say! :)

Gum paste Figurine

Here is my first attempt with Gumpaste figurine. I don't think its that bad. But kinda okay!

Carrot cake topped with gumpaste daisies and gelatin butterflies

This is a super moist Carrot cake with Swiss Meringue Buttercream icing. I tried the recipe from the book "Spectacular Cakes". The cake was very rich and moist. Tasted heavenly! The icing was very light and was a wonderful combination.

Topped on the cake is my gum paste Daisies, made without a cutter/veiner. It took lot of time without any cutter. But the result was beautiful! Another clos shot of my daisy..

And here are my gelatin butterflies. It can be made edible. But I used some glitter which weren't edible. So, here goes my non-edible gelatin butterflies

Homemade Lollipop

My boy rarely eats cake. He loves lollipop though. So I made a small treat for him! Yes, I tried a lollipop with the help of a youtube video and my son loved it!
Here is my lil one enjoying the orange flavored lollipop!

Cake Painting

I attended class with Dianna Lopez, from TLC's Ultimate Cake Off! She is an incredible cake artist, so much fun to work with! She taught us the Cake Painting techniques.

This is a 2 tier cake. The top tier is a dummy. The bottom tier had two layers of triple chocolate fudge cake with coconut cake in the middle covered in butter cream icing! And of course Satin Ice rolled fondant on top! Dianna kept few of her cakes to show us the techniques she used. I tried to implement everything and made bit of a mess! However the cake doesn't look so bad.

Red Velvet Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting

This is a Red Velvet cake with Cream Cheese Frosting. This is a recipe of Paula Deen from food network pages. Who could handle butter n cheese better than Paula Deen>!! The cake was yummy! So light! Made a few cupcakes and there was batter left. So did the cake as well. Took it to my aunt's place! Everyone loved it. My cousin finished most of it! At last minute I added couple of lilies. Couldn't even find time to put some stamens! :)
